VENEZUELA - COLOMBIA: Action on pipeline and strengthening of border

Colombia and Venezuela are tightening cooperation in two areas: energy (where a date has been set for work to start on a key binational gas pipeline) and action along the common border against drug trafficking and other forms of criminal activity. Venezuela has already announced the imminent posting of two new army brigades close to the border, plus improved aerial and radar surveillance. As this was happening, Washington again raised doubts about the real intentions of Venezuela's 'outsized military build-up'.
